Feline Friday ... YIKES!

Slide1

Steven hosts
Feline Friday and this week, I captured Ikaikalani going "YIKES!"  Apologies on my late entry this week ... we were busy on Friday, hands full with Princess Kaylyn in my care as the Dr's brought her new sister into this world!  We had just arrived home from visiting baby sister at the hospital, and she threw herself on the floor with the cats and started loving on them all!  Ikaikalani's look was priceless!

Feline Friday (test mode)

This may be a bit premature, but I just wanted to test out the WOOHOO in time for Feline Friday!  I have compiled a collection of kitty photographs going back only two years.  Secret is only pictured once, though we have had her the longest.  You will find Kaui and Kolohe also as wee kittens; KeAloha (formerly Ms Kitty) with her kittens Hiwa Lani, Ikaikalani, and Nohea as they grow.

Assuming that all went well with the html, I hope you enjoy this collage of cats residing at Redbird Inn.  Oh, by the way, I slipped in a surprise appearance by one of the barn cats, Oscar (tabby) ... did you spot him?  Join the others for Feline Friday at Steven's (sometimes)photoblog.

Feline Friday - Once upon a time . . .

Time is slipping by.  The kittens are getting bigger.  They have developed their own personalitles, yet when napping, they all have the same personality in their peaceful slumber.  I've miss the last few feline fridays, so am digging into my recent archives so I don't waste some of these precious shots of the kittens (before they get TOO big! )

With SEVEN cats in the house now, it's not unusual to find all sorts of "feline photomoments" ... Nohea woke when I shot this picture so it looks like she is in deep thought .. perhaps planning a surprise attack on a  slumbering Hiwa Lani?  hehe
My excuse for lack of blogging lately, is none other than a ROYAL visitor, Princess kaylyn.  She's earned a spot on Feline Friday this week with special loving on Kolohe.

Please don't forget to take a peek at the rest of the  Feline Friday entries at Steven's "(sometimes) photoblog" sometime later Friday ... many others have linked their feline entries under the comment section!  Enjoy!  Aloha Friday to all ~

Round Robin Challenge / Feline Friday

I feel almost gipped ... I dont have a favorite "watering hole" per se!  However, I DO have a Favorite water!  Favorite soft drink!  Favorite sport drink.  I've recently been on a trip down south, more specifically Alabama, and it was AFRICA HOT I tell you!  Coke is my preferred drink, an ICY COLD COKE.  However, there comes a time when ONLY WATER will do .. then it's an ICY COLD DASANI!!!
I am a little (okay, A LOT) behind in journaling this month ... <mybest excuse> While in Alabama, I helped the kids get on the road and make the move to our glorious northern state, and now am privileged to have my grand daughter with me daily!  There are not enough minutes in a day when there is a young child in the house!  SO, to make me work through this quickly, I have combined Round Robin Challenge with Feline Friday, but I promise not to be this lazy too often!

Nohea seems to be the most photogenic today, well for that matter, most of the time.  I caught her napping on the window ledge and decided she could pose with my favorite beverage.
Please check out the other Round Robin Challenge entries, and a big THANKS to Maryanne for our current challenge; and also Feline Friday. hosted this week by Julie, Abby and Midnight

Feline Friday ... Secret Fountain

Secret is the least likely to put in an appearance for Feline Friday, so I had to dig deep into my archives for this favorite one of mine.  She was drinking of the fountain ... it sure gets hot in Texas!!!

This week, Julie of Stately Barrett Manor is hosting our Feline Friday.  Please check her page and visit all the other listed Feline Friday participants, you'll be purrfectly happy you did!

Feline Friday - - Aloha Friday

It's Feline Friday!  This week, I thought I'd do something a little different.  The Round Robin Challenge just launched a "Flower Power" challenge, and I still have flowers on my mind!  No worries, I won't be doing this very often ~ the cats were just not very cooperative!

In this first picture, I found Kolohe and Kaui on the guest bed in my craft room.  Kaui thinks everytime I go upstairs, I need to go in there ... she races me and charges into the room hoping I would follow!

Here you see Nohea upstairs next to my hat boxes.  I'm not so sure the wallpaper compliments anything, but Nohea's coloring broke up the clash of colors.  I put a flower hair tie on Hiwa Lani and she made a cute Aloha Kitty!

I couldn't bring myself to do the flower thing with Ikaikalani, but he jumped on the table next to the honu (hawaiian sea turtle) and I was able to capture the shot beforehe ran off.  Kolohe, means "rascal" and he certainly is!  He loves to climb up my illuminated palm tree, earning him the PERFECT Aloha Friday snapshot.

I hope you all had an Aloha Friday!  Please check out Steven's (sometimes) photoblog,  host to this wonderful weekly event!  While there, please also check out the other cat enthusiasts listed in his comment section!
        HAPPY   INDEPENDENCE   DAY   TO   ALL  ! ! ! ! ! !

OH NOOOOOOOO ! ! !

I roamed about the property this afternoon looking for interesting subjects to photograph. Got some mushrooms and other interesting items for future challenges.  I headed to the pasture to check on the girls.  There's usually always something worth capturing on film out their way.  I almost choked as I saw Maile laying flat on her side, head turned up ward.  Oh My GOSH ... Lord, please don't let her be DEAD ! ! !

Why I did what I did next is beyond me!  I snapped a shot of her, THEN I called out her name ... it looked like she was breathing ... her belly heaved in and out  ever so slowly ... good sign ~ at least she was not dead, YET.  "MAILE!" I bellowed (don't laugh!  I really can bellow if deemed necessary!) A startled Maile shook the flies off her nose and stood up very fast.  AAAAAAAAARGH ... WHY ME!!!  They are like pranksters!  I looked in their water tub ... it was empty.  I wonder if she was exaggerating "dying of thirst" .. perhaps, but a bit overdone, don't you think.  Look closely at the photograph, doesn't it LOOK like she's dead?

Feline Friday: THEY STAY!!! MINE MINE MINE

It's OFFICIAL!!!  I get to keep ALL THREE Kittens!  I had to make sure it was a done deal, so I quickly searched for appropriate Hawaiian names for each.  I mean, you know, how can the Farmer make me give them up once I NAME  them!  The cats and girl yaks have Hawaiian names.  The yak bulls will have Japanese names, for which my mother will assign, and they will be presented when we bring the bulls home next month (that was free FYI)

May I present you ~  N O H E A  (Loveliness)

and presenting ~  H I W A   L A N I  ( Attractive one)

and presenting ~ I K A I K A L A N I ( similar to strength, of the heavens, though I worry about this one, he once was the biggest, but now is frail)

Ikaikalani is blessed with my oldests' sons hawaiian name, we thought it only fitting since the mama cat came from this son's home!  BTW, this is Kauionalani babysitting: she was named after my daughter.
That's this weeks entry for Feline Friday!  Now, cruise on along to Steven's (sometimes)photoblog for the lastest entries for this week!
ps ... Thanks Carly for hosting Feline Friday last week!

Feline Friday: Sweet Sleep, wakey wakey!

The babies are now running all  over the place.  This one remains at a distance most of the time, but that doesn't make me want to keep her any less!!!  I have to make a decision very soon on releasing them to new owners, or keeping them ALL FOR MYSELF!!!  Such decisions are so difficult when they look this sweet and innocent.  Steven of (sometimes)photoblog, who normally hosts our Feline Friday, has taken a little time off and
Carly has graciously hosted our this weeks Feline Friday!!  YAY, thanks a million, Carly!  Please be sure to check out Carly's page for  other feline photos.

Feline Friday and a little PeekABoo

The kittens are already a few days past 5 weeks old!  I need to get my fill of photos before it's time to send them to their new homes!  After relocating for weeks under the guest bed, they finally moved to the kitty bed.  Here, I caught them after an afternoon nap, peeking out to see what all the commotion was.

It's Feline Friday!!

It's FELINE FRIDAY, hosted by   Steven's (sometimes photoblog) <-- visit for a whole listing of other Feline Friday participants.!  Kolohe, my mischievous one, is the center of attraction this week as he replaces his sister, Kaui, in my dish cabinet!

I KNOW he taught his sister this neat trick ... to put pawprints all over my dishes ... I have learned (to some degree) to be sure to keep the cabinet doors closed now since his first sneak entry into the dark world of cups, bowls, saucers and plates!

Inspectors on Feline Friday!

I have a house full of super sleuths.  My curious cats have been entertained by an eastern milksnake.  Captured in our hallway, we quickly put it in a glass jar while we researched more on this snake.  Kolohe, Kaui and Ms Kitty kept all eyes on the snake while we checked it out.

Here is a yet another example of cat inspectors.  Kaui hopped into the cabinet to get a better look at the paint job!!!

Giving the neighbors something to really YAK about

We have had an amazing amount of people drive by and either pull over to the side, or completely turn around to have a second look at these strange newcomers to this side of the country.  Our yaks have drawn a crowd.  When we explain where we live to perfect strangers, as soon as we say County Rte with black fence, they know EXACTLY where we live and HOW many yaks we have!!!  This amazes me, especially as we are not that busy a route!  So, here it is, spring by all means, and our once gorgeous thick coated yaks are beginning to shed their coats.   YIKES, you think we'll be turned in for negligence?  Here you will find them totally CHILLING in an afternoon siesta.

I think I'll run away . . .

. . . from those darned cats!  Everytime I turn on the treadmill, Kolohe thinks he must run along with me!

Of late, he is intent on figuring out how things work .. I caught him underneath, taking a peek at things from the underside ... LUCKY for him, it was not time for my daily jog!

Feline Friday ! !

You ever wonder what goes through there minds when they're this peaceful looking?   "OH NO, NOT the CAMERA again ! ! !  Leave me be!"

I remember everytime I'd threaten the children with the camera, they'd give me that CHEEZY grin and call my bluff!   Here, though Kolohe and Kaui are actually sleeping, it looks like Kolohe is hiding from the camera.  They stay about as STILL as my grand daughter when it comes to posing for me.  Read NOT!

Feline Friday ... Chillaxin'

TGI FELINE FRIDAY  ! ! !

Here you will find none other than our own totally chilled out "Kolohe" chillaxin' for the evening.  He most resembles a ragdoll cat ... he truly does justice to our local hawaiian term "chillaxin" (combination of chilling and relaxing)  Kolohe (Hawaiian for Rascal) is totally at peace with the world, you think?

There are THREE other cats in the house, but he is the only male, and he KNOWS this mean he is KING ... you THINK?

Join in the Feline Friday fun ... check it out at

Round Robin Photo Challenge: Obstruction

My precious ones!  The kitty basket was put under the coffee table as a sort of deterrent, kinda "outta sight, outta mind" in hopes of giving the kittens a LITTLE rest from the Precious One.  The kittens are at their best behaviour when Princess appears.  They are also very tolerant to her antics .. I mean, she just wants to LOVE KITTY!  The Precious one also moves a LOT!  Securing a "blur-free" photograph of her many times more than not, can be quite the challenge.  "Be still, for just one moment Precious, while Grandma turns on the camera" ... "NO NO don't move", " .. there we go ... wait hold still" ... "Don't squish kitty ... THERE!"  She had completely crawled in the basket with the kitties, when thankfully, her interest had shifted to see if she could get that camera from grandma!

It was awfully hard for GRANDMA to bend down and get a shot with kitties and baby hiding under the coffee table.  I managed, and at first I thought how cute, then I saw there was more cropped off than not and thought I'd get a better shot next time.  Most photographers know that NEXT TIME never happens, and I'm glad I didn't dispose of this shot ... how can you resist those eyes!  You think Kolohe (by the look of his ONE eye in the picture) was thinking "UGH, you cow, get off me!"??

Above is one of my favorite pictures of the cats ... of course what better way to get back at human mother than to keep her from her other passion ... COMPUTER TIME!

Closet stalkers

HAHAHA!  You think there's something OUT THERE?  They literally STOOD there for more that ten minutes ... obviously licking their chops over some poor unsuspecting bird I lured to my front porch with a cup of seed I tossed about.  This was indeed a photo moment
.
Then of course, there is always a snob in EVERY group ... well, hanging back I found Ms *I'm Not Going THERE* ... HAHA ...

Is this CAT HEAVEN?

. . . these cats know how to get that "just died and gone to heaven" sensation! The human's son asks for a list of items to be sent in a care package ... to include a few bags of soft cuddle fish (read "cat food").  Needless to say, the human boy has a long list, and the box must remain unsealed until all items are accounted for.    Meanwhile, as Human mother has her back turned, kitties sniff out HEAVENLY SNACKS .. and must have some!  OUT comes package number one, guarded by hisses and growls as baby kitty girl devours these heavenly treats!
SAME CUTENESS???  I DONT THINK SO ! ! ! !

. . . Human Mother, unaware of these naughty antics, invests in a "spare" package of tasty Delicacies for her precious kittens.  Thinking ahead, she stores them in bathroom in back of closet.  Later that evening, upon ascending to the bedroom, a very strongscent of Human Mother dusting powder is coming from the bathroom.  Very suspicious indeed!  Upon OPENING sliding door, there sits the upsidedown dusting powder container .. .. yes, very suspicious indeed.  A few items are toppled from lower shelf, but nothing else is apparently amiss.  Human mother leaves crime scene, truly puzzled.  WHY would the kittens SLIDE OPEN the bathroom door and MESS with dusting powder.  There are not prissy cats at all.  Half way out the door, Human Mother stops dead in her tracks ... darts back to the bathroom to check on precious delicacies recently purchased and stashed. AHA!  MIA!  GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR .. she immediately hunts down one KOLOHE kitten, but comes first upon OH SO SWEET Kaui Kitten ... sitting sweetly on guest bed, paws crossed in front.  OH HOW SWEET ... come here sweetie ...

She doesn't BUDGE.  COME HERE I said ... Human Mother reaches down to pick up OH SO SWEET Kaui Kitten, only to discover her HIDING a Five Pack of MICE that had been stashed for future ! ! ! !  AARRGHHHHH!!!  The kittens are ganging up on me!!!  Outsmarted by a Six month old kitten.
